When Zen master Fa-ch'an was dying, a squirrel screeched on the roof. It's "just this" he said, "and nothing more."
In the stillness (A.J. Bunyard)
In the stillness of an empty fountain
she sees ripples formed by her panting
then
she feels the water's coolness on her tongue
is she enlightened
she is trained not to care

In the stillness of an empty fountain, emptiness overflowing, stillness calming, the dog, soaked in stillness, shakes the hide dry and barks mindfully at the squirrel.
